Avestan is what Brandon Truaxe, the founder of skincare company Deciem, was working on with a perfumer when he fell from a building in Toronto and died in January 2019. The scent, inspired by his Iranian heritage and trips to Morocco, was the last secretive act for a CEO who had behaved erratically in the final months of his life: announcing via Instagram that he was taking control of the company’s marketing, and later that he was closing down Deciem because employees had been involved in “major criminal activity”. Truaxe wanted nobody to know what the notes of the fragrance were, and when the Avestan shop finally opened in December 2019, they kept his secret. Only available at physical retail store in London.
